Thursday, December 10, 2020 – (New York, NY) – The ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) Coalition and its sister organization, the Fund for Women’s Equality (FFWE), today joins Jane Walker by Johnnie Walker to recognize Human Rights Day and launch ‘First Women,’ a national campaign to celebrate, inspire and empower more women to break boundaries.

“This year has been difficult for everyone, but it has also brought us together as we celebrated the anniversary of women’s right to vote and the ascension of the first women vice president-elect,” said Carol Jenkins, president and CEO of the ERA Coalition. “Now is not the time to rest, but to empower the next generation of fearless women leaders to keep fighting for full gender equality.”

Jane Walker– a symbol of the Johnnie Walker brand’s commitment to progress in gender equality – proudly introduced its ‘First Women’ campaign to celebrate these boundary breaking moments, and to inspire and enable others on the road to a monumental first. The campaign has launched with an Open Letter in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post penned and signed by a network of remarkable women who have blazed trails in culture.

The Jane Walker network of ‘First Women’ includes:

“Collaborations like this one are pivotal to our overarching goal of real gender equality,” said Fund for Women's Equality Board Chair Mona Sinha. “The resources and support provided by the Johnnie Walker brand will enable many more giant first steps for women as we continue to lead the national conversation to codify the equal rights for women in the Constitution.”

About the ERA Coalition:

The ERA Coalition was founded in 2014 to bring concerted, organized action to the effort to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. The ERA Coalition has a sister organization, the Fund for Women’s Equality, which promotes public education and outreach on the need for constitutional equality. Comprised of more than one hundred organizations across the country, the Coalition provides education and advocacy on Constitutional Equality.

While the effort to amend the constitution to include sex equality began nearly a century ago, our renewed efforts are centered on Black, Indigenous and Women of Color, gender-nonconforming and transgender women and girls, and nonbinary people– those who are most impacted by systemic inequities.
