Washington DC – Donald Trump’s return to the presidency of the United States represents an undeniable threat to human rights, with women’s rights and equality standing squarely in the crosshairs. His administration has a track record of eroding protections, restricting freedoms, and dismantling critical gains that have safeguarded dignity and equality for millions of women, especially women of color. And let’s not forget that it was on his watch that the Equal Rights Amendment was blocked from being added into the Constitution in 2020. This moment is not just about a political shift; it is a profound danger to the very principles of fairness and justice in our society.

The ERA continues to be a nonpartisan issue. We have one clear mission: to ensure the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) is published in the Constitution. And for that we will continue to find common ground and work with people across party lines who are willing to move this forward.

The ERA provides a constitutional shield against the sexist, discriminatory policies that could become pervasive under his administration. Without the ERA, the hard-won rights of women and marginalized communities remain alarmingly vulnerable to attack. This election has laid bare a grim reality: equality and basic human rights will be threatened overnight. We cannot allow decades of progress to be erased. Now is the time for action. We will not rest until the ERA is enforceable as the law of the land, protecting future generations against the looming tide of oppression and discrimination.

The ERA Coalition is a movement of movements, comprising over 300 partner organizations nationwide, and representing 80 million individuals. We advocate for transformative change and spearhead both community and political movements aimed at securing Constitutional recognition. We increase public understanding of the need for codifying the equal treatment of people on the basis of sex in the Constitution, and the need to end sex inequality in all its forms. This is what unites us all.
