Washington DC - The ERA Coalition condemns the blatant disregard for constitutional rights occurring in Minnesota and across the country by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Denying due process, using intimidation and deadly force against people exercising their rights to free speech and assembly represents a fundamental betrayal of both human rights and our country’s constitutional principles. When the law is applied selectively based on who someone is or where they come from, there is no equality - and when any community lives under the threat of raids and separation, no one is truly free.
These actions violate the very foundation of democracy and betray our values of justice, fairness, and equality. We believe in the power and permanence of constitutional protections—they are binding principles that must be respected and upheld. This is precisely why we fight for the Equal Rights Amendment, which enshrines sex equality as an unshakeable right. The systems that perpetuate inequality based on sex are the same systems that enable unchecked power and discrimination in all forms. Whether the fight is for gender justice, racial justice, freedom of speech, or due process—it all comes down to upholding our founding document and being treated equally under the law.
We must speak up when people are silenced, denied due process, and stripped of their rights—when fear and discrimination are invoked in place of liberty and fairness. To defend our own rights, we must defend each other. Every person deserves to live in peace, security, and dignity, free from the constant fear of lawless operations and abuses of power.
We stand in solidarity with the grieving families and communities being torn apart and continue to advocate for justice and a future where all people are treated with dignity and respect—a future rooted in freedom that realizes the ERA's promise of equality for all.

The ERA Coalition is a movement of movements, comprising over 300 partner organizations nationwide, and representing 80 million individuals. We advocate for transformative change and spearhead both community and political movements aimed at securing Constitutional recognition. We increase public understanding of the need for codifying the equal treatment of people on the basis of sex in the Constitution, and the need to end sex inequality in all its forms. This is what unites us all.
