Washington, DC — On January 14, the vibrant DC music scene will come alive at Songbyrd as local bands join forces with Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) advocates to rally support for the 28th Amendment. In partnership with This Could Go Boom, this unique event will blend the power of music and activism to champion gender equality and the publication of the ERA.
Featuring electrifying performances by Boy Meets Pearl, Grief Cat, La Marvela, Ammonite, and Quattracenta, the night promises unforgettable energy while spotlighting the urgent need to take action for equality.
Speakers from the ERA Coalition, The League of Women Voters and The Young Feminist Party will highlight the urgent need for the Equal Rights Amendment and gender equality.
Zakiya Thomas, President & CEO ERA Coalition “The ERA has been ratified, the people have spoken, and now it’s time for action. President Biden, this is your moment to lead. Publish the Equal Rights Amendment and secure constitutional equality for all."
Why the Equal Rights Amendment Matters The ERA, passed by Congress in 1972, achieved the necessary ratifications by 38 states in 2020. Despite meeting all legal requirements, the ERA has yet to be published as the 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Once in effect, the Equal Rights Amendment will:
Without the ERA, these critical protections remain out of reach for all of us
Why Now? The stakes have never been higher. With Donald Trump re-elected as President, progress toward gender equality is under threat. The first Trump administration blocked publication of the Equal Rights Amendment and rolled back abortion rights among other key protections for women. The ERA’s ratification and publication are long overdue, and this event is a rallying cry for action.
