Why We’re Still Fighting for the Equal Rights Amendment
October 09, 2024
There will be many “distractions,” but we cannot afford to take our eyes off of November 3, 2020. When we wake up tomorrow morning, we will have exactly 37 days to prepare for the most consequential election in most of our lifetimes. The candidates we vote for must support gender and race equality.
Once in office, these candidates will determine if we live in an equal society or not. Every right we have now is at stake.
VOTE and vote together- support each other: friends, neighbors, check in with them regularly to make sure they have all the information they need to vote. Elect Equality is a new tool that allows voters to determine if their candidates are pro-ERA by simply entering their state or zip code and to access resources on how to prepare and register for election day. Today’s setback is the selection of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to succeed Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court. Adding another anti-equality justice on the Supreme Court is dangerous and moves us further away from the equal rights protections that Justice Ginsburg fought her whole career to uphold. We will offset the imbalance on the Supreme Court by voting.
“If I could choose an amendment to add to the Constitution, it would be the Equal Rights Amendment”
- Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 2014
